About the Department
The department of English has been offering English at the undergraduate level from the time of its inception (Time). It has been offering Main courses like English Literature, English for careers, Language and Literature, Professional English. Now with the introduction of CBCS providing many options the department officers BA English where many essential and job-oriented courses have been included. It offers foundation English Course to 15 various departments of Arts and Science. It offers the courses framed by Pondicherry University for affiliated colleges. The department has 16 well qualified faculty members who are devoted, passionate and sincere and render all possible support to students. Week students are identified and are provided with supporting materials written in simple, intelligible language. Financial support is also extended to students coming from broken families, showing interest in studies and having good attendance percentage.
The department offers B. A. English consisting of 34 papers. 20 Papers in the first four semesters that include AECC and SEC along with main papers. In the third year students have options in DSC and they can select any 3 out of 5. British Literature, Indian writing in English, American Literature, translation studies, Literary criticism, contemporary literary theories, post-colonial literature, women writing, Advance English Grammar, English for competitive examinations, communication skills, soft skills are some of the courses that are offered. Students are exposed to literature, critical theories, and are trained to use communicate effectively in English
