About the Department

The Department of History was established in the year 1969. The Department has five experienced faculty members at present. The department currently offers B.A. in Historical Studies Programme.The department has conducted several national level seminars with assistance from UGC, ICHR, ICSSR. The Department faculties have participated in several National Level conferences like Indian History Congress, South Indian History Congress, Tamil Nadu History Congress, etc and have presented papers. In 2023, the department established Puducherry World History Congress, a national level organization to provide a platform for promoting historical research. The first annual conference was conducted in September 2023 in Pondicherry University with the assistance of Department of Tourism, Pondicherry University. Dr Ravichandrane has conducted many archeological excavations in Pondicherry and other places. Dr C Rouccoumany is a member of the Board of Studies of Bharthiar University, Coimbatore. Many Students of the department have pursued MA in History/Archeology.
